Arab League Secretary-general Amr Moussa on Wednesday urged “an immediate stop” to discrimination against both Christians in Arab countries and Muslims in Europe.
“Any religion-based discrimination has to be condemned," Moussa told the first Arab-European Young Leaders Forum in Vienna. “Extremists on both sides make use of instances of misunderstanding.”
The forum was attended by 50 young officials from 23 European states, in addition to Turkey and several Arab nations. It aims to foster better dialogue and political, economic, and civilian cooperation between future Arab and European leaders.
Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger, speaking at the event, expressed concern over attacks committed against Christians in the Arab World.
“Populist trends are on the rise and have to be confronted," Spindelegger said, while conceding Europe has made many mistakes in the assimilation process for Muslims into European society.
