The legal advisor to the Egyptian Al-Ahly Sporting Club Mohamed Othman announced on Friday, that the Economic Affairs and Money Laundering Prosecution Office has referred Mortada Mansour to trial before the Economic Court, on its July 30 session.
“This is based on the complaint submitted by us to the Public Prosecutor on charges of insulting and slandering Mahmoud al-Khatib, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ahly, misusing means of communication and disturbance, which are crimes punishable by mandatory imprisonment and a fine, according to the articles of charges with which the Public Prosecution referred (previously) the suspect (Mansour) to trial,” he explained.
“The same court is also considering Case #113 of 2023 against the aforementioned, on charges of assaulting public officials, and the attendance of the suspect is obligatory before the court.”
Othman added that there are, “about 15 other cases against the aforementioned still under investigation by the Public Prosecution, and new court sessions are expected to be set for these trials.”
“The court had previously punished Mortada Mansour with one-month imprisonment, and the sentence was served in Wadi al-Natrun Prison in Case #83 of the year 2022, and this ruling resulted in the demise of his membership and presidency of Zamalek Sporting Club,” he concluded.
The Ministry Sports announced earlier this year the implementation of the ruling issued by the Administrative Court in Cairo against Mansour.
The court’s ruling aimed to “remove the status” of Mansour after accepting a lawsuit filed by two former members of the Zamalek board of directors and others to demand his removal.
This came after he was imprisoned for a month, on charges of insulting and defaming Al-Ahly Sporting Club President Mahmoud al-Khatib.
Mansour was imprisoned for one month, from February 25 to March 25, on charges of insulting and defaming Khatib.
