Morsy tells AU delegation he feels oppressed

Former President of Botswana Festus Mogae, a member of the African Union (AU) delegation currently visiting Egypt, said he and his colleagues visited ousted President Mohamed Morsy on Tuesday, during which time Morsy told them that he feels oppressed after his removal from power.

Morsy also said that he is not in touch with anyone.

The AU delegates met with Morsy on Tuesday for around an hour at the place of his detention.

Mogae told Morsy that as a leader he must contribute to the prevalence of peace and the end of violence, MENA reported. They also told Morsy that they support the opening of a dialogue with all parties to reach a peaceful resolution to the crisis. However, Morsy said that he cannot do anything at the moment because he is not able to communicate with his supporters or the media.

Mogae also said that the delegation pressured Morsy to do his utmost to persuade politicians to achieve peace.

The African Union delegation's visit comes one day after European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton met with Morsy.
