Morsy stripped of diplomatic passport

The Foreign Ministry has made invalid diplomatic passports previously issued to deposed president Mohamed Morsy and his family as the former leader lost his diplomatic status following his overthrow by the army more than two weeks ago.

In a statement on Friday, published by state-run news agency MENA, the ministry said that the decision came in response to a request from Egypt’s presidency and is based on Egyptian laws regarding official passports.

The same measure was applied to Morsy’s aides and advisers, as well as to former members of the Shura Council, who lost their diplomatic status following the body's dissolution at the hands of the current constitutional declaration.
