Morsy has become an icon of democracy: FJP figure

Hussein Ibrahim, secretary general of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), on Monday said that deposed President Mohamed Morsy has become a symbol of the free world and an icon of democracy.

Commenting on the first trial session of Morsy and 14 others accused of killing protesters outside the presidential palace, Ibrahim posted on Facebook that the great Egyptian people put their confidence in Morsy and that he was worthy of their trust.

“The legendary steadfastness of Morsy before court has ignited the zeal of the supporters of legitimacy who reject the coup,” he wrote. “It was a slap on the faces of the coup leaders.”

“I salute Morsy the hero, and I salute the Egyptian people,” he added.

The court was adjourned until 8 January.

The other defendants are: Asaad al-Shikha (the former president’s deputy chief of staff), Ahmed Abdel Atti (Morsy’s office director), Ayman Hodhod, (his security adviser), Alaa Hamza of the Sharqiya Civil Affairs Department, Gamal Saber (lawyer), Mohamed al-Beltagy (physician), Essam al-Erian (physician), Wagdi Ghoneim (fugitive preacher), Reda Sawy (fugitive engineer), Lamloum Mekkawy (fugitive worker), Abdel Hakim Ismail (fugitive teacher), Hani Tawfik (fugitive worker), Ahmed al-Moghayer (fugitive), and Abdel Rahman Ezz Eddin (fugitive reporter for the Egypt 25 channel).
