Top prosecutor Hesham Barakat referred former Information Minister Salah Abdel Maqsoud and head of the Radio Engineering Sector at the Radio and Television Union Amr Khafeef to Cairo criminal court for trial over squandering public money.
Abdel Masqoud and Khafeef are charged with giving privileges to supporters of toppled President Mohamed Morsy during the Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in, squandering LE48 million of public money.
An arrest warrant against Morsy-era minister Abdel Maqsoud was issued by East Cairo Prosecution to be interrogated on the takeover of state-owned broadcast vehicles by Morsy supporters.
In July, the supporters of Morsy in Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in seized six broadcast vehicles belonging to the National Radio and Television Union dedicated for direct satellite broadcasting.
Some of the broadcast vehicles were discovered to be burned down after the dispersal of the Rabaa al-Adeweya sit-in in mid-August.
