Morsy arrives in Rome to discuss stability, economy

President Mohamed Morsy arrived at the Chambino military airport Thursday evening for a two-day visit in Italy, following a stop in Brussels on his European tour.

Morsy's first visit to Italy is very important, a high-ranking source at the Cabinet told the state-owned news source MENA, adding that the visit will cement bilateral relations between the two countries.

During his stay, Morsy will meet with Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti as well as a delegation of Italian officials.

At the forefront of Morsy’s agenda will be stressing his government’s commitment to achieving stability in Egypt, as well as discussing opportunities for foreign investment, said a member of the Egyptian-Italian business council, as quoted in the Italian media.

Morsy is reportedly eager to bolster economic cooperation between the two countries and launch joint projects to enter the African markets. He is also allegedly citing Italian small and medium-size enterprises as a model for economic development back in Egypt.

On Friday Morsy plans to meet wih with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano at the presidential palace in Rome before meeting with the Egyptian community at the Egyptian Embassy in Rome.
