Over 300 journalists have signed the petition by Khaled al-Balshy, deputy head of the Journalists Syndicate, on staging a strike on June 10 to voice their demands regarding fair salaries, as well as social and economic rights.
“After we reached the 300 signatures, we issued the call for strike on June 10, taking into consideration that it is not a target in itself, but a beginning of a movement fighting for the rights of journalists and media professionals, for fair salaries and better economic conditions,” Balshy said.
He added that the strike aims to face the violations of rights of the journalists and media professionals, as well as the layoffs and delays in salaries.
Specific information and details about the strike and its duration will be provided, he added.
Representatives of various media outlets will be selected to form a committee, in order to propose additional measures and coordinate among journalists and institutions.
