Mohamed Salah shortlisted for “FIFA Best Men’s Player 2018”

Egyptian sensation Mohamed Salah made it to the final list of contenders for the prestigious “FIFA Best Men’s Player 2018” award according to the FIFA shortlist, released on Tuesday on their official Twitter account.

The Egyptian King joins world football elites in the nomination including Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Argentina’s Lionel Messi, England’s Harry Kane, France’s Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Raphaël Varane, Croatia’s Luka Modrić as well as Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard.

Salah’s nomination is no surprise as the Liverpool forward had a spectacular season.

Salah brought Liverpool to the UEFA Champions League final for the first time since the 2006-07 season, where they lost to Real Madrid. He was also crowned as the Premier League’s top scorer and managed to swoop most of the season’s awards such as the PFA Player of the Year (2018), BBC’s African Footballer of the year (2017), and the Premier League Golden Boot.

He also carried Egypt to its first World Cup since 1990, as he scored both goals against Congo in the World Cup qualifiers, including a late penalty goal that saved Egypt from a longstanding tie.

As for the World Cup, despite sustaining an injury from a tussle with Sergio Ramos in the Champion’s League final, he still managed to score the only two goals for Egypt in the tournament earning himself the “Man of the Match” title in Egypt’s game against Saudi Arabia, despite Egypt’s 2-1 loss.
