Egyptian footballer and Liverpool’s top scorer Mohamed Salah is competing for the Barclays Premier League’s ‘Goal of the Month’ for his November 15 strike against Southampton, the winning goal will be announced 15 December.
The list includes 10 competing goals, with the “Egyptian pharaoh’s” nominated goal coming in a 3-0 victory against Southampton, in which he scored twice for Liverpool.
Salah is competing for the title against prolific Everton forward Wayne Rooney, who scored a sensational strike from his own half against West Ham United, and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy for his goal against Tottenham Hotspur.
Also competing is newly-promoted Huddersfield Town’s Rajiv van La Parra after he scored against West Bromwich Albion, and Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne for his finish against Leicester City.
Gylfi Sigurdsson is also nominated for his goal against Southampton, while, finally, Manchester United’s Ashley Young and Jesse Lingard are on the list for their strikes against Watford.
Mohamed Salah’s prolific record for Liverpool this season has earned him the spot of highest-scoring African in Europe, with 12 league goals in 15 matches seeing him take over Borussia Dortumund’s Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyand, and Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar, who plays for FC Porto.
Salah’s achievements this season – including being top scorer in the Premier League – has seen him nominated as one of five contenders for the prestigious title of ‘BBC African Footballer of the Year’, the results of which will be revealed on December 11.
This caps off a major year for the forward, who scored two goals, including an injury-time penalty under immense pressure to take Egypt to the World Cup for the first time since 1990.
Salah’s form, alongside fellow countryman Ahmed Hegazi, has also been recognized by the Confederation of African Football, which included them in the ‘World Football Team of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers’.
