Dozens of Minya Governorate residents gathered in front of a police station Thursday to protest four young women’s disappearance from their village.
In a police report filed at the Samallout Police Station, the residents said the women, aged 12 to 18, had disappeared from the village of Farouqiya on 4 March.
An investigation revealed that since then, one of the women has called her fiancée from Alexandria.
Reports of young women being kidnapped for ransom have increased over the past year, given the country’s general lack of security since former President Hosni Mubarak resigned in February last year.
