Trade Minister Rachid Mohamed Rachid has issued a ban on the import of products from 149 Chinese suppliers. The prohibition came because these suppliers have forged documentation and certificates in the past. The ban also included a decision not to release the companies’ import and production certificates.
Rachid said the decision comes within the framework of cooperation between Egypt and China to guard against practices potentially harmful to the consumer. He also said the ban was put in place to prevent the sale of counterfeit or tainted goods and to limit Chinese products that do not conform to specifications. The ban will also protect the market from products of unknown origin, the sale of which adversely affect factories and companies working within the proper legal framework.
