To celebrate the reopening of the Egyptian Post Museum following its renovation work, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has gifted the museum an antique carriage from the 1870s used to transport postal items, which was previously part of the Royal Carriage Museum’s collection.
Communications and Information Technology Minister Amr Talaat personally thanked the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled al-Anany for the gift, which was decided upon during last month’s inspection visit of the two ministers.
The Egyptian Post Museum features rare treasures which document the development of Egypt’s postal services, with Talaat explaining that the museum utilizes modern technologies to display the items in a manner that blends originality and contemporary aesthetics, while remaining faithful to the museum’s heritage.
The Chassis #182/2 carriage was originally used to transport postal materials and mail from train stations to small cities. They were brought from England and were originally intended to carry the king’s luggage. It is composed of a large box made of wood with a closed back door, two doors and a tall front driver’s chair.
