Under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the Egyptian National Library and Archives will be launching a campaign under the title Your Heritage is a Responsibility on Monday, January 22, in collaboration with the book house in Bak Al-Khalk, according to a press release by the Ministry of Culture.
The campaign, which will be headed by newly appointed Minister of Culture Enas Abdel Dayem, in collaboration with head of Egyptian National Library and Archives Ahmed al-Shouk, asks members of society who own any kind of rare or valuable documents, including media content, related to Egyptian heritage, to submit them over to the Organization of Books and National Documents.
These materials will be saved by the Egyptian National Library and Archives for academic and scientific purposes. Those who submit their belongings will be awarded a numerical copy of the archive, in addition to having their names in the archives. The collectibles will eventually be presented to the public in the Organization of Books and National Documents in 38 glass cabinets.
The Egyptian National Library and Archives has long been used by the Ministry of Culture as a mechanism to protect its valuable findings. In October 2017, under the auspices of ex-Minister of Culture Helmy Al-Namnam, the two entities witnessed a collaboration agreement to document the country’s verbal heritage.
In 2017, another protocol was signed between the Egyptian National Library and Archives and the Cultural program on the Egyptian radio to have a new radio competition where competitors would summarize different books.
