The Ministry of Social Solidarity said the public-sector sugar company has a three month reserve. It says the company supplies the local market with 70,000 tons per month to meet the ration card consumption.
Meanwhile, an official said the government is conducting market studies and estimating average income levels to determine the poverty line, in order to make sure subsidized commodities are supplied to those most need of them.
In a related development, the General Authority for Supply Commodities is working on increasing wheat reserves, due to anticipated shortages of the crop on global markets in the summer.
