The Ministry of Antiquities urged the British government to halt bids on Pharonic artifacts that were put on display at a London auction hall, calling on it to investigate how the items left Egypt.
Intissar Gharib, coordinator for “Antiquities Revolutionaries,” a group of ministry workers, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the pieces were put up for sale at Sotheby’s and Christie’s, noting that other items had already been sold on 25 April.
Egypt has been struggling to retrieve antiquities stolen during the security void that followed the 25 January revolution and the fall of President Hosni Mubarak.
