Minister: Sisi raises social pension by 10 %

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued on Saturday a 10 percent raise in social pension, effective starting July, said the minister of social solidarity.

Minister Ghada Wali told the state news agency MENA that the pension would be provided by the state treasury.

This is the biggest percentage that could currently be borne by the budget, Wali said. She added that this percentage was among five propositions she put forth to the cabinet.

Egypt's cabinet approved on June 18 a draft of the state budget for the new fiscal year 2015/2016, with a deficit of 9.9 percent of the gross domestic product.

The budget awaits the president's approval to come into effect.
