Local Development Minister Adel Labib has said that the new municipalities law supports decentralization in governorates and provides governors wider authorities.
In remarks on Wednesday, Labib said that the governor is the first official in charge of specifying the expenditures through the plan he draws.
Some have argued that decentralizing power to governorates could help stem local discontent caused by a stronger Cairo-based system, especially in areas such at North Sinai.
