The Egyptian healthcare system is undergoing rapid and fundamental transformations under President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s directives to achieve universal health coverage by 2030, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said Friday 29/11/2024.
This statement was delivered by Deputy Minister of Health and Population Mohamed al-Tayyeb, on his behalf during the global oral health meeting, organized by the World Health Organization from November 26 to 29 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Egypt is committed to integrating oral health and NCD prevention into its primary healthcare framework and aims to establish a comprehensive national oral health policy by 2026. This policy will incorporate oral health into the broader national healthcare system, the deputy minister said.
Tayyeb described the Bangkok Declaration as a unique opportunity to enhance healthcare systems by recognizing oral health as an essential part of public health rather than a separate issue. “The declaration’s focus on equitable and affordable access to oral health services aligns closely with Egypt’s ongoing healthcare reforms aimed at providing comprehensive care for all citizens”.
He pointed out Egypt’s issuance of the Universal Health Insurance Law, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals in health, emphasizing equity, justice, and robust social infrastructure to ensure all citizens receive high-quality healthcare, including oral health services.
Tayyeb reaffirmed Egypt’s dedication to implementing the Global Oral Health Action Plan (2023–2030), emphasizing the integration of oral health into NCD prevention strategies, promoting health equity, and developing sustainable healthcare systems.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast commitment to advancing oral health and integrating it into global NCD strategies, urging the transformation of shared visions into tangible actions that make oral health a recognized right and an integral part of healthcare systems worldwide.
