Minister: Economic reform measures to benefit poor

A senior member of Egypt's Cabinet said that the recent economic reforms will directly benefit the poor.

"Delaying the decision could have had a negative economic impact on Egypt and its citizens," said Minister of International Cooperation Naglaa al-Ahwany on Monday. "The Cabinet plans to take all measures to thwart any attempts by terrorist groups to exploit the situation."

Ahwany added that drivers must follow the new tariff and she called on citizens to refuse paying anything extra.

During a recent visit to Jeddah, the minister said she agreed with Saudi Arabic to build a number of power stations with loans of up to US$752 million.

Ahwany added that more than one billion pounds have been allocated for developing the transport system and nearly 1,000 additional buses for public transport have been made available.
