Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad directed all governorates to preserve and sustain trees across all governorates and to continuously monitor the implementation of the presidential initiative to plant 100 million trees.In a periodical issued to all governorates, the minister stressed the importance of preserving and sustaining tree-planting efforts across all governorates and working to increase their numbers, given their positive environmental and climatic impact.
She instructed the heads of centers, cities, districts, and villages in all governorates to monitor and follow up on cases of encroachment on trees in streets, squares, parks, or public markets whether through damaging, cutting down, or uprooting them in violation of Article 162 of the Penal Code, while taking the necessary measures in this regard and ensuring that reports are filed against violators.
She emphasized that no cutting down or uprooting of trees should be undertaken, nor should permission be granted to third parties to do so, except after obtaining the governor’s approval and securing the opinion of the Environmental Affairs Agency, in accordance with the provisions of Environmental Law No. 4 of 1994, its executive regulations, and their amendments.
Regarding the Ministry of Local Development and Environment’s efforts to monitor implementation of the presidential initiative to plant 100 million trees, Awad directed that the head of the governorate’s subcommittee be instructed to urgently provide the ministry’s central committee, established by Ministerial Decree No. 524 of 2025 and tasked with monitoring the implementation status of the presidential initiative, with updated information on the members of the subcommittee, a report on its activities, and its work plan for the next three months, all within one week.
