In a statement issued by his office, Khairat al-Shater, deputy supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, has denied media reports about Shater's alleged offer to an Arab state to buy the Maspero state TV building.
The statement said the documents published by an independent newspaper as evidence to its claim are "fabricated." It added that the issue had never been discussed and that Shater never intervenes in any sale or purchase related to state properties.
The renovation of the state TV studios is proof rumors that the building will be sold or demolished are not true, said Information Minister Salah Abdel Maqsoud.
The state TV building, located in downtown Cairo, is “a symbol of Egyptian media that we all cherish,” Abdel Maqsoud said.
“The renovation is costing tens of millions of pounds,” he said, pointing to the renovation of the Nile News studio, the largest studio in the Arab region, which alone cost LE178 million.
He also said the satellite channel studio cost LE16 million and is equipped with high-quality cameras. The radio archive cost LE15 million.
“I gave instructions to finish everything in 90 days,” he said.
