Minister: Dayrout aqueducts to be renovated at LE428 million

Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Hossam Moghazy has said that Dayrout aqueducts in Assiut will be renovated for LE428 million through a facilitated loan, offered by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

"The aqueducts are the oldest known water construction facilities in Egypt," Moghazy said. "They were built around 140 years ago and they need renovation. They serve around 1.5 million acres, 20 percent of the agricultural lands in Egypt."

The minister said that the renovation process is expected to take six years, which will include project tenders, designs, tests and implementation.
