Ghada Wali, the Minister of Social Solidarity, said education is the main problem facing Egypt, and attributed the country's weaknesses to the shortcomings of its education system.
During the ninth annual celebration of the Qalaa Holdings Scholarship Foundation on Tuesday, the minister added that civil society organizations invest in Egypt's most important resource: the human resources.
Egypt has 88 million people, half of them are young, she added.
"Those who built Egypt were sent by Mohammed Ali to be educated in universities abroad, because getting in touch with other cultures contributes to the education of every human being and teaches him to respect others," Wali added.
Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil al-Araby and the head of the Qalaa Foundation board of trustees said that those who traveled thanks to the scholarships affiliated with the foundation have experienced a great change in their lives, considering that what happened was a dream coming true.
Ahmed Heikal, Chairman of the Qalaa Foundations board of directors said the ninth batch includes 17 students: 5 women and 12 men.
138 students have benefited from the scholarships so far, he added, stating that the Qalaa Foundation requires that students return to Egypt to work for development organizations following the end of their study.
