Minister: 90% of tourist investments Egyptian-owned

Egyptians exclusively own 90 percent of Egypt’s investments in tourism, according to Minister of Tourism Zoheir Garranah.

The minister noted that 15 million tourists visit the country annually, for an average of ten nights each. He said the ministry has a strategy to drive the number of annual visitors up to 25 million within five years.

“Egypt’s tourism sector employs three million, and any impediment to the sector affects our national economy,” Garranah told the Shura Council’s Housing and Urban Communities Committee.

He revealed that the total investment in tourism services and infrastructure amounts to LE3.2 billion. Of that total, LE375 million has gone toward establishing 500km of main and minor roads.
