Communications and Information Technology Minister Khaled Nagm promised the implementation of 4G mobile internet in Egypt by the first quarter of 2016.
The minister said in an interview with "ONTV" presenter Youssef al-Husseini on Tuesday, that the state’s project to replace copper wire with fiber-optic cable is ongoing, adding that only the state should be involved in the work for security reasons.
Moreover, Nagm denied the three mobile incumbent mobile operators were exerting pressure to block Telecom Egypt from receiving a 4G mobile license
He point out that 48 percent of all Egyptian internet users are in Cairo.
Internet users reached 27.25 million with 31.07 percent distrubtion rate according to a Information and Communications Technology Ministry report on access and use by households and individuals in 2014.
Meanwhile, mobile internet subscriptions reached 23.3 million at the end of the first quarter of 2015, with annual growth rate of 35.05 percent.
