Min.: Sukari Gold Mine’s production surpasses 5.8 million ounces

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi revealed that the Sukari Gold Mine has produced a total of 5.8 million ounces since it began operations.

While inspecting the mine, Badawi praised “Sukari” as a modern example of successful mining investment. The mine utilizes advanced exploration technologies to extend its production lifespan.

Badawi emphasized the mining sector’s commitment to creating new success stories and increasing investment in the industry. The ministry supports the efforts of partners with diverse expertise and technologies, aiming to make significant economic discoveries and better utilize mineral resources.

The ministry is dedicated to overcoming any challenges to ensure the sustainability of operations and production, the minister noted.

During his inspection tour, Badawi engaged in discussions with engineers, geologists, and technicians, commending their commitment to applying occupational safety, health, and environmental protection standards.

He also praised the inclusion of women in the mine’s workforce, noting that 61 women are involved in both production and administrative roles, delivering outstanding performance.

Martin Horgan, Chief Executive Officer of Centamin PLC, expressed the company’s focus on increasing the value of production at Sukari Mine, which has a world-class gold reserve.

He shared confidence in Egypt’s potential and the strong partnership between Centamin and Cairo, seeing the mine as a catalyst for further successes in the mining sector.

Mohamed Mahmoud, Chairman of Sukari Gold Mining Company, highlighted ongoing efforts to develop operations in line with the goal of increasing production while reducing costs.

The minister also inspected the solar power station at the mine, which operates at a capacity of 36 megawatts, along with a battery storage system with a capacity of 7.5 megawatts to power the mine. The station is the largest serving a mining site and helps reduce fuel consumption by 22 million liters annually and carbon emissions by 60,000 tons of CO2 equivalent annually.
