The Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) announced it would reconsider the cases of all protesters detained and prosecuted during and after the revolution.
The SCAF is reviewing the situations of youth who have been tried during the recent period, the council said on its Facebook page.
Some detainees have been sentenced by military courts in an apparent attempt to curb the lawlessness that has plagued the country since the withdrawal of police on 28 January. The release of these prisoners and an end to civilian trials by military tribunals are among protesters' chief remaining demands.
Military tribunals often conduct speedy trials and have the lowest standards of justice and defendants' rights, say lawyers.
Some reports have suggested activists have been detained my mistake in the rush to arrest thugs.
