A military medical source has denied rumors concerning the death of ousted President Hosni Mubarak as a result of heart failure.
The Russian news website RT quoted unidentified sources as saying that Mubarak “has suffered a heart attack and may even have died in custody.”
“After witnessing the footage of former Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi, Mubarak suffered a massive attack,” alleged Paula Slier, the RT correspondent in a broadcast from Tel Aviv.
Qadhafi was killed on Thursday near his home town of Sirte. Disturbing images showing the leader being roughed-up and killed by angry fighters quickly circulated around the world.
However, the medical source at the International Medical Center, where Mubarak is being hospitalized, has confirmed to Al-Masry Al-Youm that the health of the ousted president is stable and that he is receiving "his normal medical treatment in his room.”
Mubarak’s lawyer, Farid al-Deeb, also confirmed the former president’s good health.
Mubarak, 84, has been on trial since 3 August on charges of killing around 850 protesters during the 18-day uprising that lead eventually to his ousting.
Last year, Mubarak was hospitalized in Germany after undergoing “a complicated procedure,” according to officials.
