The Egyptian military will be given control of polling stations during the run-off vote for the first phase of elections on Sunday afternoon, said Hamdy Badeen, a member of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and head of the military police.
Badeen said the military is well-prepared to secure the electoral process in the run-off vote, which is scheduled to take place on Monday in nine governorates.
He told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the military represents 95 percent of the forces securing polling centers.
He also said that there are plans to counter any incidents of public disorder that might erupt as voters go to the polls, adding that any acts of "thuggery" would be met with force.
The military is also securing vital institutions and important state buildings, he said.
Since the SCAF rose to power following the fall of President Hosni Mubarak, the army and the police have worked together to carry out security functions.
