Mild weather expected for Egypt during Eid al-Fitr

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) expects temperatures to continue to drop across the country on Sunday.

A member of the EMA’s media center, Manar Ghanem, said that last week’s temperatures recorded a significant rise, peaking at 34C on Sunday and Monday.

This week will see a drop in temperatures as the country is being impacted by a low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, she explained, in addition to the presence of northern air masses coming from Europe contributing to a five-degree drop in temperatures below the average annual temperature.

She added, during a phone call with Sada El Balad channel, that there is a chance of light rainfall in the northern governorates.

Ghanem explained that the weather will be warmer again starting Monday, continuing until the end of the week, reaching as high as 36C in Upper Egypt.

She continued, “After the rise in temperature, the weather will be cool again, but not significantly. The drop will be down to 26C, and this will be during the Eid al-Fitr week.”

She advised against wearing too light clothing.

Expected temperatures on Sunday:

  • Alexandria: 21C
  • Cairo: 22C
  • Sharm el-Sheikh: 25C
  • Hurghada: 24C
  • Luxor 26C
  • Aswan: 27C
