The Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation started operating the seventh South Korean metro on the Marg-Helwan line, said company spokesperson Ahmed Abdel Hady.
The new metro moved from Tora al-Balad station at 9 a.m. Friday heading to Marg, joining the other first metro line metros, he said.
Egypt received a twelfth metro from South Korea, which currently undergoing operational tests, he added.
Running Korean metros is part of a plan to refurbish dilapidated first-line trains and to provide better services to passengers and alleviate congestion. Egypt concluded an agreement with the Hyundai Rotem Korean company to supply 20 air-conditioned trains at LE2.2 billion.
