The Board of Directors of the Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation, chaired by Ali Fadaly, has announced that free smart cards will be issued to children being treated at the cancer hospital 5735.
The smart cards allow the children free metro journeys to and from the hospital for a period of three months.
The families of the children will be required to pay an initial fee of LE10 to obtain the card.
Smart cards will also be provided to a named companion wishing to travel with the child, as identified in a letter from the hospital.
The decision was made as part of the state's efforts to support children with cancer, said Fadaly.
He said that the transport minister has asked the company to provide facilities and discounts to children with cancer.
