Messi makes history by sending Argentina to the World Cup final

The Argentina national team qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup final after its great victory on Tuesday over its counterpart, Croatia, with three clean goals.

Lionel Messi, opened scoring for Argentina with a goal from the penalty spot.

Shortly afterwards his teammate, Julian Alvarez added another exciting goal which he started by running with the ball from half way on the field.

Alvarez also score the third goal for Argentina, assisted by a precise Messi pass near the penalty spot after he evaded his Croatian opponent.

Prominent historical achievements by the Messi:

Messi has become the first player in the history of World Cup to contribute 20 goals (11 goals and 9 assists).

Messi has now scored 11 World Cup goals, the most by any Argentine player in the history of the competition, overtaking Gabriel Batistuta’s tally of 10.

Messi became the sixth player to score in the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals in one edition of the World Cup.

He has become the first player to score and assist in four separate World Cup matches (since the 1966 edition):

2006 against Serbia

2022 against Mexico

2022 against the Netherlands

2022 against Croatia

Messi scored 16 goals for Argentina in 2022, more than he scored in any other year with the Tango team.

Messi has become the player with the most participation in the World Cup matches, jointly with the German Lothar Matthaus, with 25 matches, and he will break this record when he participates in the final.
