Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb will head the Egyptian delegation in the two-day COMESA summit to be held in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on Monday.
Nineteen African countries will participate in the summit which will focus on "Comprehensive and Sustainable Industry."
Egypt participated in COMESA's Foreign Ministers' Council preparatory meetings, which began on Saturday, with a delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Hamdi Loza.
Ambassador Ashraf Rashid won the election of the wisemen committee voted on by the COMESA Foreign Ministers' Council, according to a statement by the Egyptian Embassy in Ethiopia Sunday.
The preparatory meetings reviewed the political and security developments in the COMESA countries and the efforts the organization has made in order to achieve sustainable security and stability in the region, the statement added.
These council meetings also discussed programs adopted by COMESA in order to achieve those goals, including increasing trade for peace, reconstruction in post-conflict areas and activating early warning systems. The efforts made by the wisemen commission to monitor elections in African countries and its role in mediating between conflicting countries were also examined.
The council praised Egypt's counter-terrorism efforts and expressed condolences to the Egyptian people and the Egyptian government for the victims of terrorist attacks, the statement added.
COMESA is an organization formed by countries in Africa that wish to cooperate in developing their natural resources. The organization stands for Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa.
