Mehleb to BP: Paying our dues to foreign companies is our top priority

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb and the Egyptian Petroleum Minister met on Sunday with British Petroleum (BP) CEO Bob Dudley at the Economic Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Mehleb said that the active participation of many global companies in the conference confirmed that Egypt's programme of economic reform is successful and that there are many investment opportunities on the market.

The Prime Minister stressed that it is a top priority for the government to pay the dues to foreign oil companies operating in Egypt. “We will work on securing the climate for foreign investment,” he said.

For his part, Dudley said BP will carry out more investments in the oil and gas sector, pointing to agreements signed with the Petroleum Ministry on Saturday, that amounted to US$12 billion, in order to meet local demand.
