Maximum state of emergency declared against Coronavirus

On Monday, Dr. Sayed Gad, head of the quarantine, declared the maximum state of emergency after the Health Ministry announced the first discovered case of Coronavirus.

He also said tightened precautionary measures are in place to prevent the smuggling of camels from Sudan. The movement of animals is being monitored by satellite.

“The Animal Health Research Institute is taking samples from the camels coming from Sudan and Ethiopia to check if they have Coronavirus or Rift Valley Fever before they are sold on the Egyptian market,” he said.

He also said that camels coming from Matrouh and Sinai are also being checked.

“We are concentrating on the border towns of Halayeb and Shalateen,” he added. “We also established a quarantine in the Hadraba area on the Red Sea coast."
