Masked gunmen broke into the Shebeen al-Qanater public hospital in Qalyubiya Governorate by smashing the back door of the hospital and the morgue, according to a government security source.
They stole the body of a prisoner and escaped after firing shots in the air to intimidate staff.
Investigations revealed that a body was brought to the hospital from Abu Zaabal prison before the break-in.
The dead prisoner was serving a six-year sentence for resisting police.
Hospital workers filed a report and prosecutors have been notified to conduct an investigation.
