Mashat, EU Amb Review Cooperation Files

Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Mashat discussed with Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt, Ambassador Christian Berger, bilateral cooperation in the coming period as well as the implementation of the macro economy mechanism.

Mashat highlighted the major development between Egypt and the EU with the support of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and EU President Ursula von der Leyen, underlining the historic ties between both sides.

She asserted keenness on enhancing relations with bilateral and multilateral development partners under the state’s development vision.

She noted that the ministry works on implementing directives on proceeding with the economic reform, developing industry and focusing on health and education files.

The minister touched on the macroeconomic support mechanism, the first tranche of which was signed with the European Union during the Egyptian-European Investment Conference.

She noted that coordination is underway with relevant national authorities to implement several structural reform measures under this tranche which is meant to bolster the private sector participation in the development process, promote transition to a green economy, and prop up macroeconomic stability.

For his part, EU ambassador Berger congratulated Mashat for holding both the planning and international cooperation portfolios, wishing her success in her new post.

Over the past few years, the Team Europe Initiatives (‘TEIs’) has mobilized $12.8 billion in investments and financing for both public and private sectors from European countries and institutions.
