The families of those killed during Egypt's recent uprising distributed a statement in front of the state television building Friday, demanding the trial of former President Hosni Mubarak and other officials.
They charge Mubarak was responsible for their loved ones' deaths as the head of the Supreme Police Council. The statement also said former Information Minister Anas al-Fiqqi should be tried for inciting the killing of protesters during the so-called "camel battle".
Former Communications and Information Technology Minister Tarek Kamel is among the former officials who should be prosecuted for his role in cutting internet and phone service during the protests, along with former Health Minister Hatem al-Gabaly for ordering ambulances to transfer ammunition to police instead of taking injured protesters to hospitals, the statement said.
The families called on Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the Supreme Council of Armed Forces, and Abdel Aziz al-Gendy, minister of justice, to replace the judges considering former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly's case with a group of justices who will work exclusively on the trial until its conclusion. They also said former officials' trials should be broadcast on television.
