The amendments state that the president must form the supreme council of journalism in a way that includes the head of the journalists syndicate, two syndicate members to be nominated by the syndicate’s council, the head of the syndicate of workers of journalism, publishing, and printing, one syndicate member to be nominated by the syndicate’s council, two journalism professors from Egyptian universities nominated by the supreme council of universities, two law professors with experience in the field of journalism legislation to be nominated by the supreme council of universities, the head of the writers’ union, a representative from the Finance Ministry, and four public figures and prominent journalists to be nominated by the journalists syndicate’s council.
The amendments also stipulate that the supreme council for journalism has all the powers that had been granted to the Shura Council regarding the affairs of journalism, journalists, and national journalism institutions. The council will perform these duties during the interim period until a constitution is drafted and a parliament is elected.
