Security authorities in Sharqiya arrested four men and killed one after the five men attempted to run a checkpoint.
One of the five men died and another was injured. A police sergeant was injured after being hit by the car.
A police car was patrolling the Cairo-Ismailia road before stopping underneath the 10th of Ramadan Bridge. A car with five people on board then drove through the checkpoint at a high speed and its drivers opened fire at the policemen who chased them. The two groups traded gunfire.
One of the five men was killed and the remaining were arrested. A rifle, two bullets and seven blank rounds were found in the car.
The injured victims were rushed to hospital and a report of the incident was filed.
