Man arrested for allegedly killing father in money dispute

A man has been arrested in Cairo on suspicion of stabbing his father to death in an argument over money.

Pensioner Zaki Nasser, 75, was found dead from stab wounds by police in Mohamed Khedr Street, in the Hadayek al-Kobba district of Cairo.

According to preliminary investigations, the victim and his son Mohamed, 30, were seen arguing, following which the son attacked his father with an edged weapon.

Sources close to the investigation say the argument involved the victim's refusal to lend LE2,000 to his son, who was unemployed. The same sources described Mohamed as a possible "psychopath".

According to police, the suspect was arrested and a knife was found in his possession. He then admitted to his crime and said that he had injured himself in the process, say police. He was taken to Zaitoun hospital for treatment.

He has been remanded into custody for four days pending investigations.
