The number of confirmed victims of last Thursday’s boat accident in Maadi to rose to seven after rescue authorities recovered three more bodies from the Nile over the past two days.
Search efforts are ongoing for two more bodies. The families identified the bodies of the victims. The Maadi Prosecution office gave permission to bury the bodies, which will first be examined to determine the cause of death.
Rescue authorities found the three bodies in three different locations. The first body, of Mariam Aziz Armanious, was found two days ago near the site of the accident. Six hours later, the body of Merihan Mounir Boulos was found beneath the Gamaa Bridge. Finally, the body of Marina Gad Zekri was pulled from the water yesterday morning in the Shebeen el-Qanater area.
The Malaak Church held a collective funeral service two days ago for all the victims, and church priests delivered a special sermon.
