Luxor will host its first international fashion festival, "Come to Egypt", at the famous Luxor Temple in December.
The festival will be held under the patronage of the Antiquities Ministry, the State Information Service and the Tourism Promotion Authority. Arab fashion designers, singers, artists, major media figures, as well as ministry and prominent officials, are all expected to attend.
The ancient city, which has experienced an unprecedented decline in tourism, hopes this event will help revive the area as several bazaars have had to shut down and many workers have subsequently been laid off. The fashion festival comes as part of a range of campaigns aimed at both supporting the tourism sector and proving Egypt is safe.
Popular Emirati designer Mona Mansoury, who suggested the festival, said she is proud of the festival, which will be considered the first international fashion event to be held in a place that preserves the "majestic ambience of the astonishing Egyptian ancient civilization".
