Luxor Governor Abdel-Muttalib Emara on Monday announced that preparations are in place to support carriage owners with 500 horse manure bags to protect the city’s streets from waste.
Following this move, he stressed that any violators will be held accountable with full force to serve the city and the tourism movement within it.
The head of the city of Luxor, Ali al-Sharaby, is following up on the work of replacing and installing new horse diapers, to reduce random horse waste in the streets, preserve the environment and the health and safety of citizens.
Sharaby confirmed the start of the work of replacing and installing new horse manure bags for carriages to preserve the cultural and aesthetic appearance of carriage owners before tourists and foreign guests.
A maximum period of only ten days is given to install diapers, and anyone who violates this will have the environmental law applied to them with all legal measures will be taken.
Horse carriages represent a distinct part of Luxor’s touristic charm, where tourists can go for rides on the Nile Corniche and the side streets of the governorate.
During the carriage tour, tourists see all the governorate’s landmarks, shops, and daily life.
Although there are only 340 licensed horse carriages, dozens of unlicensed riders are spread throughout the governorate’s streets and work is underway to deal with them.
