The Luxor Festival for the African Cinema announced on Tuesday the launching of a new section for movies carrying the theme of liberation movements in Africa.
The festival will feature films produced over the past 30 years, such as Nasser 5, a film about the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, the Algerian Revolution and Omar al-Mokhtar.
The first film to be displayed under this section will be dubbed “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.”
The festival’s management said a number of family members of late African leaders would be invited to attend the second session scheduled between 19 to 25 January 2014 in the city of Luxor.
The list of invited family members included the following: Graca Machel (wife of the late South African leader Nelson Mandela), Mary Ould Daddah (wife of Mauritanian leader Mokhtar Ould Daddah), Abdel Hakim Abdel Nasser (son of late Egyptian President Abdel Nasser), Gamal Nkrumah (son of Ghanaian commander Kwane Nkrumah) and the former President of Mali Alpha Oumar Konare.
