Local council elections will be held before the end of 2016, in accordance with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's instructions, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said in a statement on Friday.
Ismail stressed the need to conclude the bill on local administration as soon as possible in order to hold the elections on time.
The law aims to improve regulation of the work of the local administration units, giving them greater governance control and achieving an important step towards the decentralization of power, said Ismail.
The Cabinet has scheduled two meetings before the Eid al-Fitr holiday, aimed at clearing up various crises, he added, pointing to the provision of basic goods and price control as high on the agenda.
He said the Cabinet will also follow up projects being implemented in many governorates, and finalize draft laws.
