The Public Prosecution announced they will detain Libyan national Ahmed Qadhafi al-Dam for another four days pending an investigation into charges he tried to kill two police officers during his arrest in Zamalek last month.
The cousin of former Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi is also charged with possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and a walkie talkie as well as resisting arrest.
Qadhafi al-Dam has denied the charges.
Last week, he refused to comply with investigators, claiming he was born in Egypt and therefore could not be extradited to Libya, where he is wanted on corruption charges.
Egyptian authorities arrested two other Libyan nationals on 19 March — former Ambassador Ali Mahmoud and businessman Mohamed Ibrahim Mansour.
Officials have since extradited them both to Libya to stand trial for similar crimes.
However, the Cairo Administrative Court prevented Qadhafi al-Dam from being sent to Libya on April 3 due to the pending Egyptian investigation.
Libya is appealing the decision, according to a Monday statement by Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zidan in Tripoli.
