Legal measures taken against 1,000 cheating high school exam candidates

Legal measures have been taken against 1,000 students caught cheating or attempting to cheat during their final high school exams on June 17, according to the Education Ministry.

Around 100 students were arrested at 41 examination centers around the country for cheating using the internet during their geography, biology and statics exams.

High school students took exams of biology, statics and geography on Tuesday at 1581 exam centers nationwide.

In the governorate of Daqahlia, questions from all three exams were circulated online half an hour into the exam. Allegedly, students, parents and activists seeking reform in the Egyptian education system were involved in the online circulation of the papers, with reports of parents obtaining model answers online and attempting to send them to children sitting the exam.

Education Minister al-Helaly al-Sherbiny ratified the results of the random sample taken to guage the level of the chemistry exam. The success rate was 82.3 percent, and the number of students who got full marks was 758 out of the total number of students in the sample.
